Social Media has become a major web traffic source and continues to grow. There are more facets to it than the traditional SEO method and more avenues that continue to expand almost every day.
Also the approach to social media is far different than SEO because of how people relate to the two medias differently. As time continues on, SEO will become less important and Social Media will be the driving factor if it isn’t already. So it is important to understand the nuances of Social Media and how to relate to this method over SEO, which had been the main focus of the past.
Another driving factor of social media is mobile technology. If your website is not geared to mobile technology (i.e. responsive) then you may find your site going the way of the dinosaur. Also it is important to be interactive as much as possible with your visitors to your site. If they found you through social media, most likely it is because of something entertaining or touching that they want to see and share.
SEO on the other hand, brings people who are searching for an answer or solution. Having information on your site to help them is important as well, but should be the only focus of your site.
It is frustrating to finally master (or at least understand) SEO and then discover that it is on its way out because there is a new sheriff in town, Social Media.
